U.S, postpones joint military drill; Trump urges N.K. leader to ‘act quickly,’ ‘get deal done’

‘연합훈련 연기’ 성의보인 트럼프, 김정은에 대화재개 직접 촉구

The U.S. president has called on the North Korean leader to step up his game in trying to reach a nuclear deal with Washington.
And eyes are on whether the regime’s leader would respond to such a call.
Our Kim Jae-hee starts us off.
Amid the ongoing deadlock in denuclearization negotiations between Washington and Pyeongyang,… U.S. President Donald Trump took to Twitter on Sunday to call on the North’s leader to ‘act quickly’,… and ‘get a deal done’.
According to the tweet,… Trump says he’s “the only one” who can get Kim where he has to be,… possibly referring to security guarantees for the regime.
President Trump’s comments came as Seoul and Washington announced the postponement of their upcoming combined military exercises earlier in the day.
U.S. Defense Secretary Mark Esper called the decision an “act of goodwill”,… intended to promote diplomacy and he called on Pyeongyang to “return to the negotiating table without preconditions or hesitation.”
Despite joint efforts by South Korea and the U.S to bring North Korea back to the table,… the North’s state-run Korean Central News Agency reported on Monday that its leader has been supervising North Korean air force drills.
The agency reported that Kim Jong-un was very pleased after watching an airborne landing training,… and commented that training should be carried out in a harsh environment to improve the war readiness of the armed forces.
The news also comes only two days after the same agency reported that Kim attended a military air show.
